Simple, home-style meals rooted in the soil of the Himalayas
At Stone Villa, food isn’t rushed. It’s grown, gathered, prepared with care, and served with warmth. Our meals reflect the land around us—seasonal, light, and full of quiet flavor. Much of what we cook comes from our own garden, and the rest is sourced from nearby villages. No fancy frills, no complicated recipes. Just honest, home-style food that feels like it belongs here.
A Kitchen That Grows With the Seasons
Our small organic vegetable garden sits just below the cottages, surrounded by fruit trees and flowering shrubs. Depending on the season, you’ll find spinach, mustard greens, beans, radish, pumpkin, tomatoes, coriander, and other local produce. Herbs like tulsi, mint, and lemongrass grow in sunny corners, and often go straight into your tea or lunch.
We don’t use chemical pesticides or commercial fertilizers. The soil is fed with compost, the plants watered with care. The garden is small—but it teaches us to slow down and appreciate what grows in its own time.
Kumaoni Food: Quiet, Nourishing, and Full of Character
Meals at Stone Villa are inspired by Kumaoni cuisine, the traditional food of this region. It’s simple, made from local grains and lentils, with mild spices and lots of warmth. You might find:
Bhatt ki Churkani – a comforting black soybean curry
Aloo ke Gutke – spiced potatoes with mustard seeds
Palak ka Kaapa – slow-cooked spinach with rice flour
Madua Roti – rotis made from finger millet, served with ghee
Seasonal sabzi, fresh chutneys, and home-pickled vegetables
All meals are vegetarian. On request, we also prepare gluten-free, Jain, or vegan options.
Where You Eat Matters Too
You’re welcome to eat in your cottage, but many guests prefer the outdoor spots—a table under the trees, a corner by the firepit, or the porch with a view of the hills. Breakfast is often served with the sun still low in the sky. Dinner might be shared under the stars, with the soft sound of crickets in the background.
Some evenings, we make pahadi chai over a small outdoor fire, especially in cooler months. It’s simple, but it feels special—and it brings people together.
Food That Connects
We believe food should connect you to where you are—not just feed you. Many of our guests tell us that the meals are one of their favorite parts of staying here—not because they’re fancy, but because they’re real. Cooked by hand. Served with care. Tied to the land.
